What
a wonderful start to summer. Things are definitely
heating up in town and in the real estate market.
We
have so much going on this summer, it is hard to
stay inside and work. We have the 4th of July Celebration
which includes a parade, U.S. Air Force jet flyby,
concerts, and spectacular fireworks over Aspen
Mountain.
There are also the countless athletic
events such as, the North America's premier
off-road cycling series (July 23-24) and the US Mountainboarding Championships
in Snowmass (August 11-13).
The Labor Day Janus Jazz Aspen Snowmass festival
(September 1-5) will definitely be a hit with great
performers such as Widespread Panic and Willie
Nelson.
Now is a great time to come out and visit
Aspen. Hope you have a fun-filled summer!!!
With kindest regards,
I am Sincerely Yours,
Rich Wagar

Real
Estate Giant Buys Snowmass Mall
$24.8 million deal breathes life into
old development
By Scott Condon
June 2, 2005
The aging Snowmass Village Mall apparently will enjoy life after Base Village
after all.
A
company called Meridian Pacific Ltd. purchased
the mall in two separate transactions for a combined
$24.8 million Tuesday. The deals make a strong
statement about the future of the mall at a time
when it has been nagged by uncertainty.
The
new Base Village, a mix of retail space, residences
and skier services, is being developed by the Aspen
Skiing Co. and Intrawest farther down Fanny Hill
from the mall. There were questions about whether
the new center would leave the old mall high and
dry.

Jerome buyers:
Give
us a chance

The Oklahoma Publishing Co. paid $33.5 million Tuesday to acquire the Hotel Jerome and its employee housing at the old Cortina Lodge, according to a special warranty deed filed with Pitkin County.
Oklahoma Publishing Co. became only the sixth owner or major operator of the hotel in the last 116 years. The Gaylord family, which has a controlling interest in the firm, started negotiating with Jim McManus and his Hotel Jerome Associates LP to acquire Aspen's historic hotel early in 2005. McManus was an owner for 20 years.
McManus said in an earlier interview that he was working on a $40 million deal
with the buyers. But public documents indicate $33.5 million exchanged hands.
McManus couldn't be reached for comment on whether the sale price dropped or
other terms of the deal that weren't recorded in the warranty deed.
